Senator John McCain has reportedly had prior knowledge of the questions of a joint live interview in which he faced rival Barack Obama.

According to The New York Times, instead of being in a 'cone of silence' when Senator Obama was being interviewed at the Saddleback Church in California, Republican John McCain was in his motorcade en route to the church.

Senator McCain was asked the same questions and his performance at the interview received better reviews.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Senator McCain's responses were 'sharp' and 'to the point' while Senator Obama, by contrast, took longer pauses before answering many of the questions.

The interviewer, Reverend Rick Warren had assured an audience of more than 2,000 people that while Senator Obama was being interviewed, his Republican rival could not hear the questions.

"We have safely placed Senator McCain in a cone of silence", Warren claimed.

Nicolle Wallace, a spokeswoman for the Arizona senator dismissed the report, saying, "The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous."

At the event, Senators Obama and McCain sat for an hour-long interview with Rev. Warren to answer questions on politics and social issues.
