DUBAI — Underscoring the pioneering, unique and special image of the UAE, both regionally and world-wide, in terms of sustainable development is the main feature of the agenda of Dr Mohammed Ahmed Bin-Fahad, Director-General, Dubai Police Academy who is contesting election to the Federal National Council (FNC).

“The FNC is a mirror and will reflect people’s aspirations. It will be the right place to address many social issues and public claims” noted Dr Bin- Fahad.

He highlighted many points during a Press conference he held to unfold his electoral agenda.

They included improving the UAE economy by signing economical and commercial cooperation protocols, making efforts to benefit from available human resources to meet all basic economical needs, promoting small investments of families with low income, launching awareness and educational programmes on investment to make the country a first-class productive state.

He also stressed easy access to scientific and industrial technology for UAE students. He said specialised financing centers would be set up and academic curriculum upgraded to catch up with current developments. Universities and high educational institutes would also be developed, he added.

Dr Bin-Fahad, who is also Chairman of the Higher Committee of Zayed International Prize for the Environment, said tackling environmental issues would be part of his concerns.

He would seek drawing of a global map in terms of the state’s natural resources and devising ways of protecting them.

“This democratic experience, the first of its kind in our country, is going to fulfill aspirations of both candidates and electorate. All the present candidates to the FNC have acquired an impressing achievement record in different fields. I am sure the output will be positive” concluded Dr Bin- Fahad.

Another candidate to the FNC, Ibrahim Mohammed Shareef Belselah, and engineer and businessman, said, “I hope my experience in both private and public sector will contribute to the development of the UAE society. I, as a member of the FNC, will plan for a better future because planning is key to success. I am looking forward to taking part in the drawing of legislations in the fields that I am well aware of.”

His agenda includes taking care of education by modernising curriculum, promoting professional and technical education, conducting a study on the future market needs and starting a process to prepare students to meet these needs.

Health will be on the top of Belselah’s agenda which says that best medical services would be offered and hospitals and medical centers modernised. He is also considering tackling environmental issues by raising awareness about it.

Belselah is interested in addressing economical development by improving legislations pertaining to labour and money market and Emiratisation of employment by offering proper professional training to graduates.

Following a cleaning campaign on Dubai Marina beach, another candidate, Khamis Juma Bu Amim, Chairman of Board of Regional Clean Sea Organisation and Vice-President of Dubai Petroleum Company, launched his election campaign yesterday. Khamis said his election programme would focus on respecting national sentiments, building confidence and creating job opportunities besides improving environment and increasing energy resources.

His programme, he said, included formulation of strategic plans for environment and exploiting economic potential of the country to develop and diversify sources of alternative energy, preserving environment and establishing anti pollution maritime centers and formulating of strategies for water and electricity.
