Highschool me personally in Anything Goes
Greetings from sunny Southern California! My title is Jessica Frey (informally referred to as J Frey) and we am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I grew up in Hollister, a tiny farm city in Northern California that has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothing store. I attended a large public school that is high over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to study theater. My hope is that through sharing my own experiences, I can give you some advice and help you feel at ease when you approach the faculty admission process.
Many of you readers are going to be deciding on college before very long, and I desire to make sure you know this might be planning to be all about you. It may feel a little weird and selfish for anyone who are always placing other’s needs before your own personal. But in order to help you make an informed college list and end up at a place where you belong and feel happy, you do need to produce the college search procedure exactly about yourself.
I do not know about you, however when I happened to be in senior school I made a great deal of my decisions predicated on exactly what other folks were doing and thinking. It’s cool to put on pants that are red? Okay, maybe I will go get that pair I was eyeing at the mall weekend that is last. All the other kids in my own class are using to College XYZ? Maybe We should too. My therapist claims I’d be good at engineering since I have like my calculus class? I wonder though I have NO IDEA what being an engineer is all about if I should apply to engineering, even. These were all real ideas I’d since well as many others through that anxious and fall that is stressful of senior year.
You let your own thoughts and ideas navigate your choices while it is very easy (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should be one where. Here are three fundamental principles I think every high school pupil should keep in mind they are going to apply to college while they decide where:
Focus on facts rather than opinions. Lots of people form views about different colleges and universities, however you should really focus on yours ideas for the educational schools along with the information you find as you study the universities that interest you. It’s important that you’re interested in a university because they offer something which you need in your undergraduate experience- not just because other people you know are fans of the school, or because of its well-known reputation.
Reflect on everything you want in a college experience, and accordingly apply to schools. It is now time so that you can think about just what a college campus should have to allow one to be a happy and thriving pupil. Are you wanting to go to college in a big city or even a rural college town? Do you want to study abroad in a particular nation? What sort of activities do you wish to pursue not in the classroom? Do you want to have the ability to get results closely with your professors? If you learn a college you’ve never heard about but it has everything you’re looking, add it towards the list! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your school or family ever knew about the school ahead of your development. It could be a place where you certainly will have a college experience that is enjoyable.
Take pleasure in the search process! The process of developing your college list can be a daunting task, but it is also an experience that is enjoyable. This is your opportunity to learn up to you can about the many amazing universities and universities across the country. This is the time for you to explore the myriad of options and look closely at the colleges you might be considering.
I don’t write this website to inform you should not listen to your parents, counselors, or peers. You might have wonderful resources at royal vegas casino bonus code your disposal that offer great advice and understanding. Counselors know about a variety of colleges and may manage to inform you more about the ones that meet your criteria. Your parents is able to help determine which schools will financially be within reach. You simply have in order to make sure their advice also aligns with what you want in an university experience.
Having said that, I did buy and totally rocked the red pants. We’ll admit if I could get in that I applied to a college I had no intention of attending just to see. I did get into the institution, but at the end of the that didn’t matter day. It did not make me feel better it was quite honestly a waste of time and money about myself and. But used to do follow my heart and became a theatre major rather than an engineer, and I’m therefore happy I did. More on that later.
